Biochemistry explores chemical processes related to living organisms. It is a laboratory-based science combining biology and chemistry. Biochemists study the structure, composition, and chemical reactions of substances in living systems and, in turn, their functions and ways to control them.

Brief Profile

A licensed teacher and an  Associate Professor of Medical Biochemistry , Membrane Biochemistry and Toxicology with about 16 years’ experience in the  teaching of Biochemistry to Natural Science, Pharmaceutical, allied and Clinical Sciences students. He is Self-motivated, resourceful and dynamic vis-à-vis administrative and leadership initiatives. Dr. Etim is proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, power point and other relevant software applications for research with strong communication skills. Below are my contributions to knowledge for the few years of academic practice:

  1. Innovative discovery that varying ATP concentration showed an increasing pattern of activity of Ca2+-pump polluted with Pb2+.
  2. Discovery of Azadirachta indica as a promising renal and hepato protective agent in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) toxicity.
  3. Innovative discovery that seed powder of Dacryodes edulis has phytoremediation potentials.
  4. Discovery that extract of Napoleona imperia;is can be ameliorative in disease conditions predisposed by inflammation and oxidative stress.
  5. Membership in many scientific organizations.
  6. Published author of more than thirty (30) articles in scientific journals and supervised more than forty (40) B.Sc. graduates so far.
  7. Consultant to Peace-link for Education and rural development (PERD) – A non-governmental organization (NGO).
  8. Specialized in medicinal plants and disease control research.
