PHILOSOPHY

The Philosophy of the Department is to award students four (4) years of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics. The Programme is set to combine theories and practicals guiding the award of degrees to graduates who are competently equipped with knowledge and technological skills to enable them to meet the future technological advances that will continue to drive the economic engines of the world. The department aims to achieve this through laboratory practicals and collaboration with institutions, agencies, and industries.

CORE VALUES

To produce qualified Physics graduates with prospective knowledge, technological skills, and workforce necessity toward the industrial & energy sector, science, engineering, and research globally.

STRATEGIC GOALS

To produce quality students ready for teaching and researching. To develop and drive forward other frontier areas of current research which include Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Astrophysics Observation, Instrumentation and Experiment, Quantum Information Science, High Energy Physics, Plasma physics, Photonics and Microwave technology, and Material Science. To be the Department of “Excellence” and be counted in the top five (5) Department of Physics in the country.

VISION

To become a centre of excellence in pure and applied physics.  To advance research facilities, support quality teaching and basic research thereby helping the Department to grow as a centre of excellence in Science and Technology.

MISSION

To exceed Collocations in quality teaching and researching by enticing the minds and pace with contemporary researchers in terms of infrastructure and facilities.

What does a physicist do?

A physicist specializes in the study of the fundamental principles governing the behavior of matter and energy in the universe. Physicists explore the laws of nature, seeking to understand phenomena ranging from the behavior of subatomic particles to the large-scale structure of the cosmos. They employ mathematical models, experiments, and advanced technologies to formulate theories and contribute to our understanding of the physical world.

Physicists work in diverse fields, including academia, research institutions, government agencies, and industries such as technology, healthcare, and energy, where their expertise is applied to solving complex problems and advancing scientific knowledge. Their work often involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, using cutting-edge technology, and pushing the boundaries of human knowledge to address fundamental questions about the universe and contribute to technological innovations that impact society.
