The philosophy of the school founded on the essence of science programmes as the bedrock of technological development. Therefore, national growth with attendant contribution to human welfare, health and progress is dependent on a sound scientific knowledge. The training towards degrees in the Sciences in FUTIA is purposefully geared to ensuring that graduates of FUTIA are a critical mass of properly trained and highly competent scientists that will effectively facilitate the development of a sustainable and competitive modern economy. Such economy is expected to guarantee a very high standard of living and quality of life for its citizens.

Our graduate scientists will not only adequately utilise the vast natural resources in Nigeria but will also successfully transform the economy from where we are to one of the top global economies by leveraging on science, technology, and innovation.

To this end the training of our scientists would involve the broad strategy of human resources development with its broader goals of social and political modernization. The training in Science in FUTIA must as a matter of necessity thorough practical, adopting the problem identification and solving methods relevant for employment opportunities creation, creativity, innovation and self-employment.

These considerations lead to the conceptualisation of the following model curricula for FUTIA Science programmes with the following objectives:

1. to provide broad training in the Sciences
2. to inculcate in students skill necessary to ensure competence in one’s chosen field of study;
3. to ensure and create an interdisciplinary orientation for the students to reap the rewards of an inter-disciplinary approach of solution to complex life problems
4. to create and sustain social relevance of the different science programmes, thus ensuring social responsibility and service to society.

Candidates can be admitted into any of the degree programmes in Science by one of the following three ways:

1. The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
2. Direct Entry
3. Inter-University Transfer

The minimum academic requirement is credit level passes in five (5) subjects at O’Level innationally recognised examination including English Language, Mathematics and three other Science subjects which are relevant to the intended programme at not more than two sittings. In addition, an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with relevant subject combination is also required for admission into 100 Level.

Candidates seeking admission into a programme in Science through Direct Entry must havepasses at GCE ‘A’ Level/IJMB or its equivalent in a minimum of two (2) Science subjects relevant to the intended programme to be considered for admission into 200 Level. This isin addition to fulfilling the requirement of a minimum of credit level passes in five (5) relevant subjects at ‘O’ Level as indicated above.

Students can transfer into 200-Level courses provided they have the relevant qualifications.Universities are to certify that students meet the minimum requirements for the Inter- University Transfer.

The minimum duration of Science programmes is four (4) academic sessions for candidates whoenter through the UTME Mode. Direct Entry candidates admitted into the 200 level of their programmes will spend a minimum of three (3) academic sessions.
